Dialog or Dialogue

Both words mean a conversation between two or more people, either heard, or written for a film, game, or book. British, Canadian, and Australian english favor "dialogue," while American English prefers "dialog".
But usually, to refer to computer interface windows that require the user to pick a choice, such as a confirmation modal or a file picker, "dialog" is the preferred term.
In order to disambiguate, if you need to name files, resources, scenes, or variables, try to always use:
  • "dialog" for computer interfaces
  • "dialogue" for conversations
